I was pleased to introduce Minister for Small Business Jacqui Dean to a group of small business owners and representatives in Papakura last month. The meeting was held in the Sir Edmund Hillary library’s very pleasant meeting room and I thank the library staff, Papakura Business Association and the small business owners for their help and support.

It is a huge gift for the future as well as today such is the quality of the Arena’s build and the thought and planning that has gone into completing it.

Last week was tough throughout Auckland and particularly in the South East, with many people reeling as a result of terrible flooding. I want to pass on my deepest sympathies to everyone who has been affected by it.

I would like to start by passing on my sympathies to all those affected by the devastating fires around Christchurch’s Port Hills. The tragic loss of helicopter pilot Steven Askin and then nine homes is a cruel blow to a city still recovering from the Canterbury Earthquakes that started in September 2010.
